When the current Children’s Museum of Tacoma opened its doors in the Tacoma Museum District, Pay As You Will admission captured national attention as a new operating model for children’s museums in their communities. It represented the elimination of financial barriers, and welcomed visitors into an inspired environment where children are honored and play is championed. Four years later, the Museum has welcomed over half a million visitors through its doors, and proudly still leads the way in accessible visitation and programming in the local museum community and children’s museum field nationally.
