Our programs that can use your assistance include the Children’s Museum of Tacoma, the Children’s Museum at JBLM, Play to Learn Pierce County, special events throughout the year, and more! How to Volunteer

  • Fill out the Museum and Program Volunteer Contact and Application Form on this page or the Special Event Sign Up button below. Volunteers that are between 14 – 17 years old will need to have a parent or guardian sign a permission form, which will be sent by a volunteer lead.

  • Read the Handbook. This will be sent by a volunteer lead after you apply!

  • Attend an Interview & Orientation meeting.

  • Complete a background check.

  • Sign-up for a shift and receive continual training with our staff.

  • All JBLM Volunteers will need to register with the Volunteer Management Information System (VMIS).

Types of Volunteer Opportunities

Special Events

This one-day volunteering commitment is a great opportunity for groups and individuals to help with fundraising and community event set-up, clean-up, or off-site prep before the event.

Education Program Assistant

Volunteer Education Program Assistants help the program instructor with the set up, clean up, and activity implementation of Greentrike early learning programs such as Play to Learn, Summer Camp, Preschool, and more on a consistent schedule. Shifts are half hour before and after the program time is scheduled.

Communications and Marketing Volunteer Intern

Join a small but mighty communications and marketing team to gain real world skills and experience. As a volunteer intern, you’ll get a chance to create work that showcases our amazing Children’s Museums, marquee events, and county-wide community programs. Apply today if you are a student with a focus on graphic design, copy writing, marketing, or communications.

Play Guide in the Museum

These volunteers work during Museum hours alongside our Play Guides engaging in Early Learning Activities with our visitors. This is usually a 2-hour shift.

Administrative and Material Support

These volunteers help with data entry, copying, research, correspondence, grant research, filing, prep materials for projects, and bulk mailing. For those interested, this includes bundling diapers for the Monarch Diaper Bank, Greentrike’s program for reducing diaper need in Pierce County.

Group Volunteer Opportunities

Group Volunteer sessions are a great way for your team to contribute to making a lasting difference in the lives of children and youth! We ask that group leaders fill out the Volunteer Contact and Application Form, and a volunteer lead will reach out for further steps to register your group.
