Fall is in full swing, and our neighbors are celebrating with plenty of amazing events! October is Tacoma Arts Month, which is recognized as a celebration of arts, culture, and community and marked with dozens of workshops, performances, tours, and more for folks of all ages.
We’ve compiled a list of our top picks of Tacoma Arts Month events that are free and family-friendly, including a few of Greentrike’s very own!
Sparks Activity: Marbled Printing

Try out printmaking with some unusual materials at this Sparks Workshop, including shaving cream and dye! Printmaking is an engaging process that provides the magical challenge to think in reverse and the instant gratification of creating art multiples as images, textures, and patterns are transferred from one surface to another.
Up and Atom: Family Game Night

Oct. 8 | 4 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Join Tacoma Public Library for and play a variety of family-friendly board and card games! Families are also invited to bring their own games to enjoy with others.
STEAM Night

The theme for October’s STEAM Nights is Shapes and Patterns, which invites families to participate in activities exploring Sierpinski’s Triangle, Natural Fractals, and Shape Pictures with stickers and construction paper.

Up and Atom: Log Cabins with Job Carr Cabin Museum

Oct. 15 | 3:30 p.m. – 5 p.m.
Learn about log cabins during this drop-in craft workshop. Make a mini-log cabin using cardboard, rulers, and markers. Participants can also build a cabin with Lincoln Logs. Instructions, supplies, and assistance will be provided by Museum team members.

Low Sensory Live Concerts
Children’s Museum of Tacoma
Oct. 24 | 10:30 a.m. – 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Greentrike and Northwest Sinfonietta are excited to bring live music experiences to children in a low-sensory environment that welcomes all responses to the music! Children will enjoy a fun and interactive program of classical and popular music (including favorite Disney tunes) with a string quartet from Northwest Sinfonietta, an instrument petting zoo, and a Q&A.
