Organizations across Pierce County are offering many events this February for the entire family to enjoy! We’ve made a list of some free family-friendly events taking place this month, so join the community for a day or night of family fun!

Tết Lunar New Year

February 1 | 1 – 4 p.m.

1721 E 56th St in Tacoma

Celebrate the Year of the Horse at the Eastside Community Center! Experience Vietnamese art and culture through various performances, lion dances, an ao dai fashion show, and traditional Vietnamese food.

Read to a Dog

February 2 | 4 – 5 p.m.

3609 Market Place West, Suite 100 in University Place

Practice and strengthen reading skills by reading to a furry friend! At the University Place large meeting room, each reader and their grown-up will have the chance to read one-on-one with a dog and their handler. It is a first-come, first-served basis, and all children must be accompanied by an adult.

Cuentos Bilingües / Bilingual Story Time

February 2 | 10:15 – 11:15 a.m.

13718 Pacific Avenue South in Tacoma

Visit the Parkland/Spanaway library for bilingual story time! Songs, art projects, books, and rhymes will be enjoyed in English and in Spanish. Children and caregivers will learn together by experiencing both languages!

Virtual Cuentos Bilingües / Virtual Bilingual Story Time

February 5 | 7 – 7:35 p.m.

Virtual Pierce County Library, Virtual Room 2 via Zoom

Black History Luncheon

February 7 | 12 – 3 p.m.

1602 M.L.K. Jr Way in Tacoma

Join the People’s Community Center for a free sit-down lunch! Enjoy music and performances, and listen to inspiring words from multiple guest speakers. Lunch will be buffet-style featuring beef pot roast, mac & cheese, cabbage, cornbread, and desserts. RSVP is required.

Story Time for Mixed Ages

February 10 | 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

123 South River Ave in Buckley

Attend the Buckley library for an afternoon of stories, songs, and movement activities. This free event is for families with children of all ages to enjoy!

Read to a Rabbit

February 13 | 3 p.m. – 5 p.m.

1116 Fryar Ave in Sumner

Grow reading skills by attending the Sumner library to read to an adoptable bunny! With the help of trained staff from the Humane Society, families have the opportunity to read to a bunny in a calm and encouraging space. This event is recommended to children ages 5 to 10 with an adult, but all ages and abilities are welcome. 

Great Backyard Bird Count

February 14 | 9 – 10:30 a.m.

Meridian Habitat Park 14422 Meridian E in Puyallup

Count and learn about local bird species at Meridian Habitat Park. Join the Tahoma Bird Alliance for a guided bird walk and counting morning. During the walk, enjoy complimentary handouts, cocoa, and coffee!

Make Your Park Shine

February 17 | 9 – 11:30 a.m.

8425 6th Avenue in Tacoma

Help the community by cleaning up Titlow Park. While cleaning, be on the lookout for monkeyshires! At the lodge, Park Guides will be providing information about the Lunar New Year and monkeyshines. Trash bags, grabbers, and gloves will be provided.

Building Party

February 19 | 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.

6622 20th Street East in Fife

Attend a Play Time program offered at the Fife library. Families have the chance to explore, create, and build with a variety of building blocks. Enjoy listening to music, building, and socializing with other families.

Hilltop Healthy Kids and Family Carnival

February 21 | 12 – 4 p.m.

1602 Martin Luther King Jr. Way in Tacoma

Attend the 16th annual Hilltop Healthy kids and Family Carnival! This carnival will feature live music, games, free food and t-shirts, and multiple free services including dental cleaning and hair cuts. Make sure to enter in the bicycle and gift card raffle!

APCC’s 28th Annual New Year Celebration featuring Cambodia

February 28 | 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.

2727 E D St in Tacoma

Join the Asia Pacific Cultural Center’s 28th Annual New Year Celebration while they honor the country and culture of Cambodia. This celebration will be filled with performances, activities, vendors, and a variety of food from across Asia and the Pacific Islands!
