Preschool Powered by Play

Helping prepare children to be confident and eager learners

Inspired by the Best in Early Childhood Education

Preschool Powered by Play is inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, which believes in children’s innate capacity to wonder, hypothesize, investigate, and direct their learning. Teachers listen, observe, and provoke thoughtful investigations to follow the emergent interests of children within the Museum and carefully designed play-based classroom. Each learner and the collection of learners create an invested, collaborative, compassionate community that celebrates each person’s unique spark, gifts, and talents.

Preschool Powered by Play offers Toddler and Preschool Classes at the Hoyt Early Learning Center in Proctor. (See pricing and class schedules below.)

Through the pandemic, Greentrike has followed the guidance of the Washington State Department of Health and the Tacoma Pierce County Health Department, found here. As of March 14, 2022 masks will be encouraged, but are no longer required, indoors and outdoors. Children and staff can choose to continue to wear a mask or not wear a mask. We acknowledge that changes with public masking can be difficult and stressful. Please have a conversation as a family to discuss your thoughts and feelings on masking and what makes your child and family feel comfortable.

Greentrike staff, programs, and participating children and families will support and respect the choices of individuals. Masks will continue to be provided for anyone who requires one.

Children and teaching staff will wash and sanitize hands thoroughly upon entering the room and then frequently throughout the day. Each child will be assigned a cubby to hold their belongings. Materials, toys, and high-touch surfaces will be sanitized daily.

By dropping your child off each day, you agree to the following:

Thank you for keeping us informed if your child is not feeling well as we may need to work alongside the Tacoma Pierce County Health Department to support the health and wellness of our community.

Children and staff exposed to someone with COVID-19 no longer need to quarantine, unless they have COVID-19 symptoms, regardless of their vaccination status. Additionally, classroom closures will only occur if the  Tacoma Pierce County Health Department declares an outbreak in our classroom community. Individuals exposed to COVID-19 will need to get tested 3-5 days after exposure, regardless of vaccination status, and continue to monitor for symptoms.  It is also encouraged that individuals wear a well-fitting mask for 10 days after exposure.  If symptoms develop, individuals will need to quarantine at home and if symptom onset occurs at school, children and staff will be sent home immediately; a negative test will be required to return to school. Greentrike staff will notify those who were potentially exposed at school. Children and staff exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19, regardless of whether they were knowingly exposed or not, must get tested before returning to the classroom. Any individuals who are symptomatic, but are negative for COVID-19, should consider wearing a mask while participating in our programs to reduce the spreading of germs to others.

Any child or staff member who tests positive for COVID-19 must notify Greentrike/Preschool Powered by Play administration and isolate at home for at least 5 full days, regardless of vaccination status. They can return to school or work on day 6 if they have:

As legally required, Greentrike will reasonably accommodate the medical contraindication and religious practices of its employees.  To maintain compliance with EEOC regulations, we are unable to share the individual vaccination status of Greentrike employees.
