The Children’s Museums of Tacoma and at JBLM will be closed on Monday, June 19, in recognition of the national holiday Juneteenth. By closing our museums and administrative offices, we encourage our staff and families to reflect on and learn more about the meaning of the holiday and participate in gatherings throughout the community, such as the Juneteenth Celebration in Tacoma.

Juneteenth first became a national holiday in 2021, but the day has long been an important historical milestone commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the U.S. The holiday is a time for a cultural celebration and a recognition of the sustained work needed to create a more just and equitable society for all.
