Update September 5, 2025 — Shine has been extended and the Museums will also be closed on Monday, September 8. The Children’s Museum of Tacoma will reopen on Wednesday, September 10. The Children’s Museum at JBLM will reopen Thursday, September 11.

Original Release

The Children’s Museum of Tacoma and the Children’s Museum at JBLM will be closed from September 1 through September 7 for Shine Week, the Museums’ annual weeklong deep-cleaning and maintenance event.

Throughout the year, Museum staff work diligently to keep spaces clean and safe with daily upkeep. Shine Week provides dedicated time for larger projects and extra thorough cleaning that can’t be completed on regular open days. “Shine Week is our way of making sure every child returns to a safe, sparkling, and inspiring space for play,” said Maria Gaytan, Greentrike Associate Director of Museum Operations.

Both Museums will reopen on Monday, September 8, with expanded fall hours and special programming:

  • Children’s Museum of Tacoma will welcome members for a Member-Only Day.
  • Children’s Museum at JBLM will offer Low Sensory Hours for visitors who benefit from a calmer play environment.
