The Greentrike Back to School Festival celebrated the return to school on August 31 at Tollefson Plaza! Thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, donated and showed up for our community. We distributed nearly 1,000 backpacks to Pierce County children and youth – and that’s just the start of the great day of community we had!
Tollefson Plaza
Festivities centered at Tollefson Plaza, where there was a backpack and school supplies giveaway, DJ, performances, a Game Truck, dozens of resource booths, snow cones, popcorn, cotton candy, and activities.
Main Stage
The stage at Tollefson Plaza featured music from DJ Kure and KPX, and performances from Vision Step Team and Asia Pacific Cultural Center API Dancers.
Booths
The Greentrike Info Booth provided families with backpack and school supply giveaways, a festival map and scavenger hunt, free admission coupons to the Children’s Museum of Tacoma, Tacoma Art Museum, Museum of Glass, Washington State History Museum, and Foss Waterway Seaport, and COVID-19 at-home test kits.
The community partners below also hosted booths with information, resources, and activities!
Black Lives Matter Mural Painting
Festival goers added the finishing touches to the AMAZING Black Lives Matter mural in Tollefson Plaza. Artist, Dionne Bonner, and friends helped children, youth and grownups alike.
Safe Youth Campaign
Seeds of Peace Street Teams activated several pop-ups as part of the county-wide Safe Youth Campaign to increase opportunities, civic engagement, and overall quality of life for the young people in our city.
