Over the summer, we hosted eight weeks of Summer Camp at the Children’s Museum of Tacoma!

We believe children are leaders, creative, capable, compassionate, inquisitive, and authentic, and we aim to reflect this image of the child in our programmatic offerings and Preschool Powered by Play. Each week featured a fusion of art, science, engineering, storytelling, and adventure to honor curiosity, nurture creativity, and spark imagination!

Check out the highlights from Greentrike Summer Camp 2022 below!

Art and Exploration

Whether they were taking photos to document their perspective, spray painting natural objects, or layering self-portraits with color to shift their identities, campers engaged in a form of artistic expression each day.

Museum Play

Every Wednesday, campers had the entire Children’s Museum of Tacoma to themselves to play, think, create, and pretend!

Field Trip

Preschool Campers uncovered tiny crabs with tiny pinchers, made up tunes with sidewalk xylophones, looked up in awe at the Museum of Glass “jellyfish,” and some even got soaked at the water sculpture during a walking field trip.

In the words of the campers, BEST DAY EVER!

Glasswork with Emily Martin

Campers had a surprise visit from Emily Martin, a glass artist whose focus is flame working!
Emily showed campers glass bead making and what happens when glass melts. She is one of 20 artists featured in the GATHER: 27 years of Hilltop Artists exhibit at Tacoma Art Museum curated by glass artist Trenton Quiocho. Visit TAM to see two of her glass pieces on display now!

Thank You, Camp Team!

Last, but certainly not least, we’d like to thank our Camp Team for their work planning and facilitating an epic summer of play, learning, and growth! Next up – Winter Camp.
